Christian Children's Book Review

The title and the book speaks for itself. This is easily the best book on the market about the true meaning of Santa Claus and the magic he brings every year to many families around the world at Christmas. This book is a true holiday classic and a must read for everyone who celebrates Christmas. My son, who is 9 years old, still firmly believes in Santa and I hope this will continue for at least another year. When the questions comes up about Santa, I will be able to tell my son the same way this talented Author & Illustrator, Anthony Canamucio explains so wonderfully in his book. The illustrations are beautiful as Anthony Canamucio perfectly illustrates the story of Santa Claus in a style that will warm your heart and spark your imagination as the illustrations come to life.

Years ago when I was about 10, which is many years ago, I had to find out the truth about Santa from my 13 year old brother which wasn't the best way to find out. This is another reason why I appreciate this book so much. Now my children will be told the truth about Santa Claus without my anxiety level getting in the way, because I will be relaxed and at peace knowing about The Real Magic of Christmas. My children will be able to pass this book over to future generations. The Story and the Integrity behind the Christmas spirit of giving will be well preserved. The Real Magic of Santa Claus: Honest answers that will make you believe.

Do yourself the favor and make sure this book is part of your Christmas storybook collection.

Unique and gentle

Anthony N. Canamucio is a unique little chapbook, explaining the real story of St. Nick. Not only does the author tell a bit of the history of the man (who lived over 1,000 years ago), but he offers fun statistics about Santa (like how much milk he must drink if he gets a glass at every child's house) that make it clear to children Santa can't be real.

Or can he? The author gently explains how Santa Claus is real. After all, he points out, you would never know the name of St. Nicholas if he'd lived the life of a wealthy man, rather than living a Christ-like life by giving most of his wealth to the needy. And Santa, the author argues, lives in each one of us when we choose to make Christmas a little more special for each other. For example, Canamucio explains how his grandmother was too poor as a child to ever own a doll. So one Christmas, he found a doll that would have been new when his grandma was about five years old and gave it to her as a Christmas present. She remembered that Christmas as one of her fondest memories.

Now, the author says, he loves playing Santa for his children. After he reads them the biblical story of Christmas, he loves putting together toys, then eating the cookies and drinking the milk his children have set out for Santa.

"I feel like Santa Claus because I am Santa Claus! When you help to make someone's life magical, you will believe in Santa Claus stronger than you ever did when you thought he was just a guy in a red suit. It is real, and one day you will understand that living on in the hearts of millions for over a thousand years is much more spectacular than flying reindeer."

Throughout, colorful cartoonish illustrations offer interest.

What I Like: This book is written like a loving father explaining the situation to his children. The author is ever gentle, careful not to trod on any child's imaginings of Santa. Even if you've allowed your child to think Santa is real, this book offers a gentle way to break the truth to him or her. In fact, your child may feel honored, rather than disappointed, since the author emphasizes that kids reading the book are now big enough to carry on the Santa tradition. And if you've always taught your children that Santa Claus is make believe, this book offers a unique way to teach them about the joy of being Santa-like.

Overall Rating: Very Good.

I never knew how to tell my children and grandchildren the truth, without disappointing them, when they asked whether Santa was real or not. This book gave me the answer. The last page, particularly, provides a most touching and satisfying answer. I showed it to some friends and colleagues, and many had tears in their eyes.

My 9 year old began questioning whether or not Santa Claus is real. Thanks to this book, I didn't have to figure out what to say. The book is wonderful--it manages to "break the news" in a way that will not leave the child feeling disappointed (or worse--deceived). The book addresses the TRUE magic of Christmas (something that, unfortunately, has gotten a little "lost" over the years. The author has accomplished a wonderful blend of facts, humor, wit, and personal stories. Truly an amazing book. I loved this book and highly recommend purchasing it for a child you love. If not today, at some point in the future you WILL be called upon to answer the age-old question, "Mommy/Daddy, Is Santa Claus real?" Instead of not knowing how to answer, you now are lucky enough to have a book to do the explaining for you as you and your child read it together. My only "complaint" is I wish it had been written several years ago when my 17 year old asked the same question!
