The year is 2010. We have come so far yet we are not quite there. Many lives were lost yet many still live. Many know the means of transmission, yet many neglect to follow it. Many of us live the fast life, looking for excitement, for success. We are constantly searching for that missing part that dwells deep inside, each one of us. For many of us, we are lost, broken, unloved, discriminated, depressed and angry. We are still in denial, shunned by society as lepers were years ago. We are individuals with HIV/AIDS. We are part of the world, and this society. Our lives have meaning, and each one of us can make a difference. I would like to take you on a journey, where you can experience the history, the struggles, trials and outcomes. Our testimonies, weaknesses, strengths, and our never ending hope for tomorrow.

I am a physician in the HIV/AIDS field and I found this book to not only be informative but very inspiring. It relates to the stories I have heard from many of the HIV/AIDS woman I have come in contact with. This book emphasises prevention and the steps one must take to protect themselves. It is a must reading for all persons that have been newly diagnosed, and a must reading for everyone that may in their lifetime have unprotected sex or use IV drugs. Cudos to Venus for having the courage to write this book reveling her life story.

Venus' book makes this horrible crisis real to everybody. By telling her story first, she draws you in and allows you to realize this could have been you or somebody you know. You then view the rest of the book through her eyes. The facts become more real and more compelling. In her book, she is authentic and that makes all of the difference. Anyone can write a fact based book. But when those facts come from a 20 plus year survivor of HIV/AIDS, you are going to listen! Thank you for writing this Venus.

And deeply privileged—that’s how you will f...

Putting an Authentic Face to the HIV/AIDS Cause and Offering a Solution Reader Rating

Posted July 20, 2009, 1:18 PM EST: Not affraid to offer her experiences and her life lessons, Venus tells her story as a 20 plus year HIV/AIDS survivor. When I read this I realized Venus is the same as all of us. What happened to her could have happened to so many other people. Once you realize AIDS and STDs can happen to you, the facts and information she offers in the book come alive. The risks become real. The statics become alarming. All young adults and sexually active people should read this! Maybe it can change a few outcomes.

A must read for sexually active teenagers and adults!! Reader Rating

Posted July 16, 2009, 10:17 AM EST: Ms. Perez has put on paper not only her experience as a Person Living With HIV (PLWH) but as a women and later an activist. She has shown in her book the history of HIV disease as well as other Sexually Transmitted Diseases. Her personal story is inspiring for those infected, newly infected or affected. I beleive we all know someone who either in infected now or will be in their lifetime. Take the time to read this book, inform yourself and help others through the education you will gleen from it.
