Description

Following the style of the first volume, Gary C. Walker presents stories based on family narratives and local folklore from the days of the Civil War. Culminated from hours of personal interviews and research, these accounts are presented in a storytelling manner. Melding fact with fiction, these tales explore what was and what could have been during a time that saw a country divided. The featured stories cover a wide range of topics including family life, society, and military men during battle. Among the assortment of collected anecdotes one such account looks at how one soldier, William Ruffin Stanley, came to have two grave markers. Also detailed is how Gen. James A. Walker transitioned from lawyer to general to lieutenant governor of Virginia. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Gary C. Walker has written, published, and promoted his books in Southwestern Virginia for over thirty years. He has been active in reenactments and is the recipient of the "Stonewall" Jackson Life Time Achievement Award. Readers have used his books to research family genealogy, write plays, and produce Civil War art. The Virginia Defense Force used the materials to produce a recruitment film.
