Daily Harvest Bakery and Deli Cookbook
Publisher : Pelican Publishing Company, Inc.
Description
Opened in 2004, the Daily Harvest Bakery in Monroe, Louisiana, produces hundreds of muffins, pastries, breads, cakes, and cookies each day, all made from fine whole grains milled on the bakery's premises. Without sacrificing any sweetness, these recipes use honey, unrefined cane sugar, and agave nectar instead of refined white sugar. From cakes to casseroles and breads to breakfast pastries, these treats are sure to be a delicious delight to all. Accompanied by charming anecdotes about the bakery and its employees, more than two hundred heart-healthy recipes fill the pages of this frank and friendly cookbook. From the carrot cake, studded with walnuts and pineapple, to the bakery's signature whole-wheat brownies and cranberry-pecan bread, each dish is made with all-natural, wholesome ingredients. Without any professional business or culinary experience, bakery owner and author Teresa Gordon started Daily Harvest because she had a passion for good food and good health. From its humble beginnings, the Cinderella-story bakery has met with incredible success and has been featured in Southern Living and Road Trip! Magazine and was the recipient of the Northeast Louisiana Small Business award in 2006. Now for the first time, Gordon reveals the secrets behind her heavenly breads and delectable goodies. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Jonesboro-Hodge, Louisiana, native Teresa Gordon worked from home for twenty-five years raising her two children. While watching television one day, Gordon was inspired to learn how to make Ezekiel bread. She would have to mill her own grain, so she bought a small mill and bag of grain and started making bread for her husband, children, neighbors, and friends. She soon began baking nonstop with Gale Green, a friend she met through her children. One day at a local beauty salon, the two sold their first loaf of bread, and the requests started pouring in. Gordon, with the help of Green, decided to take a chance and open Daily Harvest. The venture has been an enormous success, and Gordon has since opened a second location in West Monroe. She has been a speaker at Louisiana Tech University School of Business and at church organizations, inspiring other female entrepreneurs. She lives in West Monroe, Louisiana, with her husband.
