Hearts on Fire: The Story of Vlad the Impaler and the Women He Loved is the First Book in The Passion of the Dragon Saga by authors Rayna Kingston and Helena Lancaster. They formed the idea for the series through conversations about Vlad the Impaler, his history, and the women in his life, both rumored and known ones. Those conversations sparked their idea for a story about the real, historically infamous man through the eyes of the two women he loved, his first wife and his rumored lover he had before, during his first marriage, and afterwards. Kingston and Lancaster twist a tale making the two women sisters vying for the affection of the mysterious dark Prince of Wallachia.

"In a beautifully dark and fiercly romantic setting, Kingston and Lancaster manage to immerse the reader in a time forgotten. A time where love penetrated castle walls and held strong as the earth shook with battles. The first in “The Passion of the Dragon Saga,” Hearts on Fire promises to pull you in quickly into the torrid love affairs of Vlad the Impaler and the women he loved.

It is both elegantly seductive and tragically romantic and it will leave you breathlessly awaiting the next edition." - Amber B.

"Lancaster and Kingston take care to provide characters and situations appropriate for the tumultuous atmosphere of the 1400’s, delving into both the grit and the elegance of the era. The authors unapologetically explore themes in a manner that is as eloquent as it is shameless in its honesty. This method of storytelling ensures that, while the historical significance of the time period is not forgotten, the backbone of the story remains held within the relationships that exist behind the scenes of war.
Much of the language used is in keeping with the historical frame of the novel, although it keeps in mind modern reading sensibilities. Descriptions of bodices, carriages, and sleeping chambers create an atmosphere laced with the visions of a bygone era. The tale is told through the eyes of both sisters as they experience events that are strong enough to shake them to their foundations. While some may find this method tedious or repetitive, it provides a unique sense of wholeness that fleshes out the individual characteristics of two sisters as they battle for the man they both love." - Ashley Pereira

"You are getting the story from two sides and getting to know both of the women Vlad loves. Their approach to this story was so incredibly well executed and once you get a couple of pages in, you are HOOKED. Normally in a love triangle I would dislike one or more characters, but experiencing it from both perspectives makes it hard to not celebrate each character's happiness and join them in their sorrows. Hearts on Fire is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time and has had me feeling every range of emotions. It's romantic, tragic, sexy, funny.. One minute I am laughing, the next I'm crying, then I am furious." - The Makeup Library

"This is a good love story. I thought it was a twist for the book to show you can love two people at the same time. But at the same time can be very true to life. I enjoyed the characters is this book and the emotions this book brings to the surface while reading it. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes romance with a dark side." - Aly

"I have never read anything from the 15th Century so I was unsure when I started reading but it was a very enjoyable read. I loved how it was based on one person being able to love two people as that can happen and this drew light to that. For a debut novel written by two authors, this was fantastic. I loved the characters and I loved the plot. It’s sad and beautiful at the same time but a perfect mix of both. It was wonderful to see the story unfold before my eyes. Overall, an excellent read and I can’t wait to see what happens next!" - Kirsty Turner

"I am rarely ever able to get into stories that take place during a time in the past, but I absolutely loved this one. Being in a different time period, it was very educational to see how much different culture was back then than it is now. I was very captivated by the story, and how it came to be. I found myself feeling extreme emotions that both Erdenia and Erzsébet feel as they are being described. Vlad is a very enchanging and charming character who you both love and hate through everything he does. Though you don't always agree with him, and at moments you want to jump into the book and put him in his place, I can understand why he could be an easy man for both sisters to fall in love with." - Victoria Prickett

"This book is well written and a beautiful and a sad story at the same time. I loved the fact it shows you can love two people at the same time. But sad cause no should have to go threw the pain of loosind a loved on. I recommend this book to readers it is well writen and I enjoyed it." - Greygryphn

"A friend let me borrow this, well actually she insisted I read it & I gotta say I never would've thought Vlad the Impaler would be sexy but if he looked like the cover or like they described I would be fighting over him too!! It was really hard at first to get into this book bc of how its wrote but once you get the hang of it that goes away. It's written from both perspectives of the sisters (Erdenia & Erszebet) so at first it seemed repetitive but as the story went on & after the first two or three chapters I got used to it & started to wonder to myself how certain events & conversations felt to the other. The sisters both have there reasons for what they do & how they feel making it hard to pick a side. On the one hand I want to be rooting for Erdenia but poor Erszebet... Poor both of them, actually. I feel like the authors did really good at keeping with the time period as far as herbs, scenery, & speech went. This book definitely has some romance & passion! Even when Vlad is being mean hes still H-O-T. Its hard to choose a sister to root for bc they both are so sweet. I wont put spoilers but I will say that I have been left wanting more!!!" - Christina Scott

"I was able to see the characters develop and experience the plot shift to something I wasn't expecting. I was captivated and enthralled with the drama that ensued and the love and passion that continued to ignite between the characters.

Having finished the entire book, I can say I wouldn't change the progression Kingston and Lancaster laid out because it allowed me to have an experience I wasn't expecting. It gave me the chance to get to know the characters, and see them grow and transform right before my eyes and imagination. " - Rachel Chryczek
