Description

That boy will be a curse to his mother and his family…

Forbishi is an intelligent and headstrong young Cameroonian. His people said he would grow up to be a torchbearer for his tradition. But the great Wizard of Menteh had a different opinion.

Through the increasing influence of western society, Forbishi begins to turn against the tribal customs that have underpinned his family’s existence for generations. When he comes of age a suitable wife is found for him, a virgin chosen by his family. Forbishi resists the arranged marriage and the culture that supports it. He becomes smitten with another young woman, who also agrees to marry him, and he eventually forsakes all that he holds dear to denounce his culture.

Should the marriage of two young people who hardly know each other be taken on the basis of love alone?

In a world where culture and tradition are all important, what role should the family play in deciding who their children should marry?

Will Forbishi ultimately live to regret his actions?
