Erin Hunter is actually three people: Victoria Holmes comes up with the storylines and makes sure the books stay consistent and writers Kate Cary and Cherith Baldry, who both live in the UK, take it in turns to write the books. They say that they have always loved cats and fantasy stories and came up with the single name, Erin Hunter, to avoid confusing their readers by having books from the same series filed in different places on the bookshelves.
Kate is fascinated by animal interaction and the way you can read all sorts of hidden motivation into what cats do. She's also not afraid of describing the goriest scenes! To find new locations for the cats in Warriors to explore, she and Cherith Baldry with often go on long walks in the woods. Watching their cats and other people also helps them to see how cats behave in certain situations. Kate has written Into the Wild, Fire and Ice, Rising Storm, Dawn, and is currently working on The Sight.
Cherith Baldry loves to write Warriors so that she can imagine a cat's eye view of the world. She is also particularly interested in King Arthur. Epic battles, courtly code of behaviors, and knights are all themes very predominant in Warriors. Together, she and Kate Cary, share an interest in ancient forms of worship, astrology, and stone circles. The have used their knowledge to give depth to the cat's own mythology. Cherith has written Forest of Secrets, A Dangerous Path, The Darkest Hour, Midnight, Moonrise, Starlight, Twilight, and Sunset. She has also written a children's series called The Abbey Mysteries and a adult book called Exiled from Camelot.
Vicky was brought up on a farm and loves all animals. She acknowledges that teaming up with Kate and Cherith on the Warriors books is an unconventional way of working but, "We love writing the books together and it means we can produce them much faster than a single author could. We each have our favorite characters and ideas for what could happen next, which means the stories have three times as much energy and passion!"
