Charmain Mitchell

Hi,

I'm Charmain, and I live in a pretty market town in Hampshire in the UK with my partner, four children, two cats, and countless chickens and ducks.  Actually, I was very tempted to write and a partridge in a pear tree at the end of that sentence, but that would be silly (although I just wrote it).

I write in the horror/fantasy/mystery genre, under my full name Charmain Marie Mitchell.  The first book I wrote was called 'The Lust for Blood' and is an anthology of 13 very graphic and gory horror stories, the book is currently free in the UK and USA and its been downloaded about 25,000 times.

I am currently writing the 'Vampire' series of books, the first book being 'Vampire - In the Beginning'.  The story is about the five hundred year old vampire called Gwen and her life, starting in Tudor England, the series will follow her journey until present time.  'Vampire - In the beginning is currently free in the UK and USA and it's been downloaded about 12,000 times.  I have just released the second book 'Vampire - Child of Destiny' and I have been blown away by it's popularity and great reviews.

I've also started a new series of books called 'Mary Howard, Supernatural Investigator', which should be ready for release in April/May 2014 and then I will be continuing with the 3rd book in the 'Vampire' series, which should be available in October 2014.

Here are just a few of the 5* reviews I have received for the books mentioned above:

The Lust for Blood:

By Stacia Isaac

Format:Kindle Edition
This was an amazing collection of short stories that grasped my attention from the very first page! It's filled with gore and grotesque images that help the reader become more engrossed with each stories, all while having a sort of realistic slash fantasy realm incorporated. If you like any of these things as I do, this book is pure grotesque perfection, accompanied with nightmarish endings!

Vampire - In the Beginning

This story is about a woman that has lived as a vampire for over 500 years that is writing out her life and how she became a vampire until the here and now. I think this book is very good and very detailed. The author makes you want to keep reading into the next book. recommended for ages 13 and up only because of a few gore scenes!

Interview

1. Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I'm 41 and live not far from the south coast in a pretty market town in the UK.  I live with my partner Mike, and I've got 4 children, ranging in age from 22 down to 11, 1 grandchild, 2 cats, and countless chickens and ducks.  I've always written stories from when I was a very small child, it is, and will always be, my passion.

2. Describe your book Vampire - In the Beginning in 30 words or less.

Vampire - In the Beginning, is about the life of Gwen and her heartbreaking journey of nearly 500 years.  A captivating read filled with love, history, and horror.

3. What was the hardest part of writing your book?

I guess the hardest part of writing any book is coming up with a storyline that not only makes sense, but also continues to interest the reader in following books.  I hope I've achieved this with the 'Vampire' series.

4. What books have had the greatest influence on you?

My greatest influence comes from the author Daphne Du Maurier, especially 'Rebecca' and 'The Birds'.  Her books were spooky and fascinating, elements I hope I succeed in bringing to my own work.

5. Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?

My book is available from the majority of the online book retailers and I share links for them on Twitter and Facebook.  I also promote this book free on many sites, including Amazon, Smashwords, Kobo, and via Freado.

6. How do you spend your time when you are not writing?

I spend time with my family, read, and I love history, so at weekends you will normally find me visiting old and historical buildings.

7. What are you working on next?

I have already completed the next book in the 'Vampire' series, and 'Vampire - Child of Destiny' is available at all good online retailers.

I'm currently writing 'Death Whispers', the first book of a new series called, 'Mary Howard Supernatural Mysteries'.  It's a series that focuses on a young medium (Mary Howard), and the horrifying mysteries she solves via her often unwanted visits by dead people.  The series also focuses on Mary's love life, her friends, and the crazy and often unpredictable events which seem to plague her life.
