Sybrina Durant

I am the author of "Learn To Tie A Tie With The Rabbit And The Fox" a cute storybook meant to make it easy for parents help teach their child to learn to tie a simple knot in a necktie.  It has an accompanying instructional song.  The song and the book in print or ebook are all available in English, Spanish and Tagalog.  Hear the song for free at sybrina.com.

Interview

1. Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I am a self-published children’s book author.  I also publish other books for friends and family.  Last year I published over 20 books while working a full time job, too!

2. Describe your book Learn To Tie A Tie With The Rabbit And The Fox: Story with Instructional Song in 30 words or less.
This is a great book for teaching a child manual dexterity.  If a child is old enough to tie shoelaces they’re ready to have fun learning to tie a necktie.

3. What was the hardest part of writing your book?
Figuring out how to get the illustrations done.  But luckily, I live in this internet age where finding service providers is as easy.  I am fortunate that I found this book’s illustrator, Donna Marie Naval.  She really brought the story to life.

4. What books have had the greatest influence on you?
I love science fiction and fantasy.  My favorite author in my younger years was Piers Anthony.  I loved the way he gave human characteristics to fantasy creatures like unicorns.  I also really like Watership Downs by Richard Adams for the same reason.

5. Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?
I have a website, Sybrina.com, with a catalog of all my books.  I also have a blog, an author page on Facebook and Pinterest boards for all of my books.  I place information and reviews of my books in all of these places and interlink them.  I’m a member of IBPA.  Through them, I take advantage of their library and book store blasts.  I also interact with groups like BookBuzzr to get the word out about my books.  And recently, I’ve started writing reviews for other children’s book authors because I believe in authors helping authors promote their work.

6. How do you spend your time when you are not writing?
When I’m not actually writing or publishing, I am promoting and marketing.  Writing and publishing a book is the easy part.  Promoting and marketing never ends.  There’s always a new avenue to be discovered.  And the writing for marketing never ends.  You always have to come up with fresh new ways to let people know your book exists.

7. What are you working on next?
I’m actually working on a book to show writers how to publish their own work without spending a penny.  It is called, “Help Yourself – How To Publish and Market Your Book By Yourself For FREE”.  I believe that if you have a book in you, then now’s the time to publish it.  Once again, we are fortunate to live in this internet age.  We have the ability now to do anything we can dream of and we’re no longer at the mercy of others when it comes to presenting our works to the world.
