Interview

1. Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I'm the daughter of two ballet dancers from Baltimore. I lived in NYC for college and moved to Los Angeles to work in the film and TV biz. I had a great career in TV as a post production producer and Visual Effects producer, then I started writing for TV and sold a couple of projects that were never made. I teach screenwriting at High Schools throughout Los Angeles for the Writer's Guild Foundation and for my own organization, Write This Way. I still dance and run a small dance studio in Venice for kids. I love producing plays and am doing one right now with some of the students I teach.

2. Describe your book ‘Kalifornia Blu’ in 30 words or less.

Kalifornia is a fifteen year-old skateboarder living in Venice, CA with her rock-star mom who goes MIA so she's forced to track down her estranged ex-rock-star dad.

3. What was the hardest part of writing your book?

Nothing was hard, this one came easy. I love the characters and they guided me along the way.

4. What books have had the greatest influence on you?

Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger, Weetzie Bat by Francesca Lia Block, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee - I am always looking for a good father figure, and Looking For Alaska by John Green.

5. Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?

Well, I do a lot of Facebooking, I just shot a book trailer, so I'm about to start marketing with that. My next stop will be teen sites. Wish me luck!

6. How do you spend your time when you are not writing?

Hmmmm, I teach screenwriting to teenagers throughout Los Angeles. I like to play the drums and I raise honey bees.

7. What are you working on next?

A sequel to Kalifornia Blu where she goes on a European tour with her mom.
