After departing Liverpool, clutching my Ba Hons degree after three
years of intense hard work, study and of course just the odd evening of
socialising, I spent the next 15 years working in the voluntary
sector. I specialised in many aspects of fundraising, working and
raising money for local, regional and International charities.
With the credit crunch fast approaching, I took the plunge last year to
move away from the increasing uncertainty of the charity world and
began working for the “safe and secure” world that is the public
sector.
However, during the past five or so years, I have constantly thought of
writing about my life’s experiences and observations, but without the
confidence or belief that I could in fact consider expressing myself
well regardless of the fact that anyone would actually read my
material.
Nevertheless, at a very long and drawn out conference six months ago, I
began to think about what I would write about and what style I would
use. Half an hour later I had filled the reverse of the conference
agenda with story concepts.
As I began to write I decided that I wanted my writing to leave a smile
on people’s faces and a spring in their step for the day ahead. In
today’s ever increasing time constraint world, I wanted to attract
those readers on trains, tubes, buses, waiting rooms and indeed sun
loungers. To enjoy and complete the reading of one of my stories in
one sitting/journey, without having to remember three or four days
later where they were with the plot line, who was who etc and revisit
earlier pages as we all do from time to time with novels.
My stories are designed to be light hearted, fun and accessible to
people of all ages – some with the understanding of perhaps of what
I’ve gone through, with others hoping that it will never happen to
them!
I have indeed yearned to be a writer these past few years, and have
already envisaged myself looking out to sea from my sunny roof top
balcony, tapping away into my lap top, my thoughts and inspirations as
I enjoy the Italian hospitality on the Amalfi coast. Indeed in my
mind, I’ve already enjoyed that glistening glass of Pinot Grigio with
the villagers after a hard days writing! Presently however I live in
North Wales!
Writing
has always excited and mesmerised me, with books never venturing far
from my reach. From novels, thrillers, biographies and travel writing,
I have always been captivated by a carefully crafted chapter, which
leaves you just waiting to turn the next page. Or, when the book has
finished, feeling almost slightly bereft and missing a good, loyal
friend
Having been inspired by far more noteworthy authors
than myself, I nevertheless decided to share just some of my
embarrassing, toe curling moments by trying to capture both the readers
imagination and also take advantage of their sense of humour!
This book is designed to share and ideally provoke enjoyment and laughter!
