Kristen Stone was born in London, England, in 1951 – a city still suffering from the effects of the war. The youngest of three surviving children she was pampered and cossetted, kept well away from the Big Bad World.
When told at school by someone who had never read anything she had written ‘You can’t just be a writer. You have to do something else as well’ she put her dreams to one side and tried to get on with ‘real’ life.
Nothing other than writing really appealed to her and she drifted through life taking the course of least resistance. She was too young to appreciate the ‘Swinging Sixties’, too old to make a career in computer programming (tried that in the days when programmes had to be hand written about ten years before desk-top computers came to the fore), too timid to fulfil her dreams of exploring the world and too idle (her words) to study hard enough to be a professional pianist or music teacher.
She got married in 1974 to a wonderful man who believed it was his job to take care of his wife and family. Never being one to protest at having everything provided for her Kristen had several attempts at being published. Because very little interest was shown in her work, and not knowing quite how many other people were trying to achieve the same ambition, she wasn’t sure her work was any good. Then around about 2010 she discovered a host of writers’ websites. She posted some of her work and suddenly people were saying: YOU CAN WRITE. THIS IS BRILLIANT.
Since then she has not looked back. Thanks to the world of electronic books she can share her work with the rest of the world. With four books on Amazon and with followers from all around the world Kristen Stone now holds her head up high and declares to the world ‘I am a Writer!’
