Erika Parkman was born on February 27, 1982. She grew up knowing that facing adversity would be hard in the inner streets of Boston. She was quite the big mouth. Her mother told her she was very belligerent and mean to others for no reason.
Phyllis wanted to give her children a better shot at life, so she picked up the few things they had and moved to Evergreen, Alabama, the Deep South. There Erika had to adjust to saying, “Yes, Ma’am,” and “No, Ma’am; “Yes, Sir,” and “No, Sir.” This was a challenge for her.
Years went by and Erika grew up into a teen. She went to church with a neighbor and was spoken to by the preacher. He said, “There is something about you. It is something God will use you for.” Erika became fearful and never returned to that church again. To Erika, God was a high force that we all should fear and if he wanted to use her, it meant she was mean just like him and she just did not think they had anything to talk about.
