James Todd Cochrane was born in California in 1969. He received his BA from Utah State University, where he majored in Business Information Systems with a minor in German.
A writer since elementary school, he published his first novel, Max and the Gatekeeper, in 2007.
The author writes part-time while working as a computer programmer. He now lives in Juneau, Alaska.
Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I am a person with vast interests. I could go to the Super
bowl one day and see a ballet the next. I have lived in seven states
and overseas. I have always loved to write. In 4th grade
a friend and I wrote our school play. I have a degree in Business
Information Systems and can speak two foreign languages. Above all I
love to have fun, and writing is fun.
Describe your book ‘Max and the Gatekeeper’ in 30
words or less.
Max is unwillingly
sent to live with his grandfather for the summer. Instead of the
boring summer Max had anticipated, he is thrown into a battle between good and
evil.
What was the hardest part of
writing your book?
Editing is still
the hardest part of writing a book for me. .
What
books have had the greatest influence on you?
The Lord of the Rings, The Shannara series by Terry Brooks
Briefly share with us what you do to market your
book?
I try to find
new ways to promote my books online. So far my best results have
come from targeting schools. I usually donate several copies a year
to school libraries. These donations have resulted in over 60 author
visits, getting Max on
How do you spend your time when you are not writing?
I love to play
golf. So in the summer months I try to play as much as I can.
What are you working on next?
I am currently working on the 4th book in the Max and the
Gatekeeper series, The Dark Society.
