I was born in Burnley some time ago. Educated in and around Lancashire, I then gained a degree in Arts and Media from Cheltenham University.
Unsure as to what I wanted to become, I took a temporary placement with a well known retailer in Manchester, as an adminstrator, in the trading department. Enjoying the work and wanting to progress I moved around the country gaining experience as a buyer.
Comfortable with my progress I left my job to travel round the world, working for a good while in a good few places. Now back in England I buy biscuits, a lot of biscuits, for an up and coming retailer in the East of England.
Soon after returning from our jaunt around the world, my partner gave birth to a daughter. Wanting to write my daughter a bedtime story, something from me that she could keep, I set about developing a tale about a wizard living in a crescent moon shaped mountain. My imagination got the better of me and soon the bedtime story became a novel, and so 'The Wizard of Crescent Moon Mountain' was born.
I'm now in the process of writing an offshoot to 'The Wizard...', but am concentrating also on marketing my debut novel.
Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
At present I'm a grocery buyer, dealing primarily in biscuits, for
a medium sized retailer. I have two children, a boy and a girl, called
Ella and Jake. I've been with my partner for a good, long while, 13
years, I think. I've travelled the world,
Describe your book ‘The Wizard of
Worlds collide, in
a journey through Everlast, where two brothers battle with their emotions and
otherworldly forces, in the hope of returning to the past where they
belong.
What was the hardest part of
writing your book?
The book, or at least
the story was easy to write, the trick to it all was getting grammar to a
standard worthy of publication. That was definitely the hardest bit, and the
most frustrating.
What
books have had the greatest influence on you?
Tolkien and Lewis, most definitely. But, it is experiences of
the world to date (I've travelled a good part of the world, some of places and
characters in the book are inspired by my experience), tv and film that have
had most influence.
Briefly share with us what you do to market your
book?
Money has been
spent on freado / bookbuzzer, facebook, goodreads and a website. I've
also approached reviewers and local bookstores / media. The book has
not yet been published though, so everything is a build up to the event of
publication.
How do you spend your time when you are not writing?
Going to the gym
(I'm building up the muscle as well as running regularly), spending time with
family, gardening, diy, book / antiques collecting, photography, listening
to music, cleaning the house, watching films and TV.
What are you working on next?
I have ideas for the next book in the series / offshoots to characters and
stories in the book, but want to concentrate on marketing this book before
moving on to the next.
