Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I'm a Carolina girl by birth (best in the world!), but recently moved to California.  I studied mass communication and sociology at Meredith College and spend most of my time writing, watching an unhealthy amount of Supernatural, and kicking butt at Rockband.

Describe your book ‘Wasteland’ in 30 words or less.

One year ago, seventeen year old Becca Wilkinson changed the lives of dozens of people.  Now, one word will change her life forever. 

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

The hardest part was definitely the editing stage.  Cutting out unnecessary parts was like getting a haircut...something you know needs to be done, but at the same time it's hard to let it go.

What books have had the greatest influence on you?

I'm a big fan of paranormal/fantasy books.  My favorite book is Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice.  Her ability to create a mood is unparalleled.  I could picture everything in my mind in brilliant clarity.  I hope my readers have the same experience and connection when they read my works.

Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?

I'm self-published, so I'm a one woman marketing team.  If I can stress one thing I do to other self published writers, it's to connect with book review bloggers!  They're a great resource and way to network and get your name out there.  

I also created a book trailer for my novel, blog regularly, am a member of the Book Blogs Ning, and you can find me on Twitter.  When you're an indie author the biggest disadvantage you have is that you're unknown.  You have to really engage in social networking and increase your online presence.

How do you spend your time when you are not writing?

What little downtime I have I spend watching TV (some of my faves are Supernatural, LOST, True Blood, Mad Men), spending all of my money at the movie theater, larping, and playing videogames/boardgames.

What are you working on next?

I'm working on book two of the Kin Trilogy (Outlaws), trying to see how much trouble I can get Becca and Luke into, and I'm working on a novelette series set in a dystopian future with zombies.
