Elizabeth Lang was an avid reader from an early age. Science Fiction and Fantasy were and still are her passions, with occasional dips in the pools of Mystery. She has spent many years in the IT industry and started writing late in life, but once begun, she couldn't stop.
Elizabeth lives in Canada though she's worked in many places around the world. She loves traveling, learning about different cultures, and sampling their delectable foods.
She writes mainly scifi thrillers/psychological dramas, though she did accidentally end up with a scifi romance novel. She swears she has no idea how that happened.
Elizabeth has also written some humour, mainly wacky stuff that comes to her mind in the wee hours of the morning when her brain refuses to acknowledge being attached to the rest of her.
She has also dabble in a bit of poetry, but barely enough to get her toes wet.
Could you tell us a little bit about
yourself?
I am a Canadian Science Fiction writer who also dabbles in a bit of
humour and poetry. In my other life, I am a computer systems analyst. I love
writing and creating new worlds populated by complex people.
Describe
your book ‘The Empire’ in 30 words or less.
In a galaxy under siege from alien invaders,
humanity wrestles with issues of freedom versus security. Caught amidst the
chaos is scientist Adrian and his consort, a psi-enabled humanoid, Kali.
What was the hardest part of writing
your book?
The hardest
part was writing the psychological battles between the two geniuses, Adrian and
the psychostrategist Sester. It was fascinating and a great deal of fun, but to
do them justice when I'm not a genius myself, took a lot of care and thinking.
What takes them minutes would take me days to develop properly.
What books have had the greatest
influence on you?
Of the classics, Tolkien's Lord of the Ring trilogy, The Hobbit and The
Silmarillion and Victor Hugo's Les Miserables. Surprisingly, not science
fiction, but the rich, detailed worlds they created, the ensemble casts and the
journeys of the characters that pierce the heart, those affected me a great
deal.
In science fiction, Asimov's Foundation series and in fantasy, David
Edding's Belgariad series. Again vast, rich worlds with huge casts of
characters each with their own journeys that touch the reader.
Briefly share with us what you do to
market your book?
It's been a convoluted and evolving learning experience. I've sought out
reviewers of science fiction and also romance, mainly in blogs and book sites.
I have delved into social media, adding my presence as an author to FaceBook
and Twitter. I also have a blog, Sci-Fi Worlds in
which I have weekly posts about Science Fact or Fiction and about current and
breaking news in science fiction and the publishing industry, as well as some
news about my own current projects. I also have an author's website: http://www.elizabeth-lang.com.
I've also participated in special events like the Summer Sizzler program
at The Romance Reviews website and of course, at BookBuzzr.
How do you spend your time when you are not writing?
Thinking about writing. But
seriously, I try to exercise regularly, doing a lot of walking and I get
together with friends for coffee and movie days.
What are you working on next?
I am working concurrently on the second book of the Empire series, The
Rebels, and The final book, The Andromedans.
