Interview

Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Sure, but you might want a hit of caffeine to stay awake. ;) I'm a wife of twenty years, mom of two teenagers, and the 'domestic zookeeper' of three adopted greyhounds, two cats and four finches. My writing surely stems from a life-long love of reading as well as encouragement from my storytelling grandmothers. I was raised in the Midwest and California and now we live in South Carolina.

Describe your book ‘Justice Incarnate’ in 30 words or less.

Set in Chicago, Justice Incarnate is an urban fantasy/paranormal romance featuring Jaden Michaels - a woman determined to permanently eliminate a predatory demon she's hunted for centuries.

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

The biggest challenge was letting it get 'dark' because I was afraid it was too dark to be marketable. When I followed the good advice of a couple of published authors and just let my writing voice out, the story flowed and I was much more content in the process.

What books have had the greatest influence on you?

Most recently, The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks because it was an opportunity for a fresh personal assessment of where I am and where I want to be. The Bible, too, not just for my faith, but also as a research and storytelling resource (My grandfather was a minister and a great theology debater as well). And I suppose Judith McNaught's Night Whispers must be credited here. It was a going away gift from a friend and unbelievably, it was my first contemporary romance novel. It hooked me on the genre and inspired me to add that romantic element to my own novels.

Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?

My website is the cornerstone of my marketing plan. The continuing innovation of BookBuzzr technologies has been a big help in reaching readers in multiple places and I appreciate all the avenues available here. I'm also active with both Facebook and twitter and networking at those sites has been helpful, increasing my visibility through interviews, guest blog posts and more.

How do you spend your time when you are not writing?

Most of my free time is spent with family. With two active kids and our common family interest in greyhound adoption, we stay busy. We're all avid readers and we enjoy movies and gaming too. Of course I always strive for some alone time which usually involves yoga and a book.

What are you working on next?

Currently I'm promoting my latest release, Tracking Shadows, and editing a lighter contemporary paranormal romance. I'm also drafting a brand new novel (with a darker paranormal edge) and making notes for my next 2096 novel. (Yes, readers, the next 2096 novel belong to Mira.)
